Hosting

The WIP group exists due to the generosity of the volunteers who host its monthly gatherings. To host, you should:

  • Have room for at least 6 other people.
  • Have a piano or a good keyboard.

Since it's your home, the rules are yours.

As host, you will head the event, signaling the start and end of the music, as well as any breaks. Most gatherings last about two hours.

The WIP group gets its strength from the social connections of its members, so it would be nice if you would allow some time for socializing. You can provide refreshments, but are not obligated to do so.

We do ask that you make everyone feel welcome and included, especially anyone attending for the first time.

One more request: collect information about each piece played—the name of the piece, the composer, the name of the performer, and the instrument played (if it's not the piano)—and send it to the WIP organizer for our historical records.

Currently, we meet at 2 PM on the first Sunday of each month. The time and the day can be modified.

If you would like to host, first check the Gatherings page to see what spots are open. Then send an email to the WIP Google Group announcing that you would like to host. Give the specific month, day, and time. Your proposed hosting should appear on the Gatherings page shortly.

About a month ahead of your event, send out an announcement to our Google Group. This announcement should include the date and time of the gathering, your address, and any specific instructions you'd like to give people (e.g. parking instructions, no shoes in the house, pets present, etc.). It might be handy to also provide your phone number.

It's up to you to remember to send out the notices and reminders, and to collect and send the playlist to the organizer.
