The List

The WIP mailing list is as close as the group comes to having a membership list. To get on the mailing list, contact the WIP organizer. This is the only way you can get added.

To send a message to everyone on the list, just send an email to wip@freixas.org. Messages coming from the list have the prefix "[wip]" at the start of the subject line.

When replying to a message from the list, be sure to use "Reply" and not "Reply All" or "Reply List" unless your reply needs to be seen by everyone (which could be useful for a group discussion). Keep in mind that any messages sent to the list are going to land in a lot of people's mail boxes.

Here are some examples of when you might want to send a message to all list members:

  • You are hosting a gathering and have some information about the gathering that everyone should know. The organizer could also do this for you, but there's no reason you couldn't do it yourself.
  • You have a crazy idea for a future event and want to see if anyone else would be interested.
  • You have information that you believe is of interest specifically to the list members (The link to Harry's obituary was a good example of this).

To send an email to the current WIP organizer, write to wip-owner@freixas.org.

To remove yourself from the list, send an email to wip-unsubscribe@freixas.org. The body of the message can be blank—this is a message to the software that controls the list, it is not a message to a person. If you later want to resubscribe, you will need to contact the organizer.

The software used to manage the list has some other magical addresses, but the two I've listed are the only ones that you might want to use.
